Dual Diagnosis Program
When someone is suffering from addiction,
it affects both the body and mind concurrently. Many individuals
are suffering from addiction as a result of
pre-existing psychiatric conditions. This is called a
dual diagnosis case. More often than not, the
pre-existing condition is directly related to the addiction.
Dual diagnosis is complicated
because of the concurrent psychiatric disorders and physical and
emotional addictive issues. Many individuals are reluctant to
discuss the surrounding psychiatric disorders, which is a
hindrance to treatment and recovery. Our dual diagnosis
treatment program understand the sensitivity and empathy
needed to successfully treat dual diagnosis.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
While there are
general guidelines and structure to treatment programs,
the truth is that treatment is most successful when a program
treats the individual not the disease. Each individual and their
accompanying addiction require personalized treatment, depending
on their situation. This is never more applicable than in the
case of dual diagnosis. Whether you're suffering from
bipolar disorder, anxiety
disorder, depression, the best form of treatment is a
customized treatment plan that treats both the addiction and
the relevant psychiatric conditions. Furtherrmore, customized
relapse therapy and
aftercare programs are required for dual diagnosis.
Peer Recovery
As we all grew
up we were faced with new experiences in life. Romance,
disagreements and many other aspects of life caused each of us
to seek out an experienced elder for advice. Why did we do this?
Because even at a very early age we knew the values of
experience. These experiences in life are major factors in how
we all react to certain situations. Experiential therapy is a
concept based on the personal experiences of our professionals
and fellow recovering patients at
Rehab Centers of Florida.
Not only do the experiences of our therapists count, but every
experience that can benefit a recovering patient is highly
valued and has merit. During our group meetings our patients are
encouraged to share their experiences, as one can never
under-estimate the value in the sharing of positive information.
There is no better instructor in life than experience.
Bipolar
disorder, which has many names including manic-depressive
disorder, is estimated to effect more than 17.4 million
adults each year. Both men and women can develop this disorder
usually occurring in their late twenties. A person with this
condition experiences episodes of mania followed quickly by
depression. These aren’t the normal periods of highs and lows
that most experience periodically, instead, they are intense and
severe mood swings. The good news is that bipolar disorder
can be treated, and people with this disability can lead happy
and productive lives.
When dealing
with a
substance abuse addiction, it is important for the drug or alcohol addiction be treated with the mental
illness. We have a treatment facility that specializes in duel
diagnosis and how to handle the patent needs, to help them
conquer both illnesses.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia
is a severe brain disorder, that controls ones’ life with
symptoms of hearing voices, thinking people can read their mind,
controlling their thought or plotting to harm them. These
effects are obviously terrifying and can cause withdrawal,
agitation, and fearfulness.
Alcoholism and
drug
abuse seem to heighten the illness and enhance the disease,
although still playing a role within each other. Although the
causes of schizophrenia are unknown and there is no cure,
treatment for this disorder eliminates some of the symptoms of
this disease. For correct and consistent changes in this
disease, there must be constant supervision and care, to handle
the medication intake. Our facility manages dual diagnosis
with addiction and mental disorder but monitoring each
illness carefully, learning how to deal with the addiction and
illness one on one.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder is an illness where someone has unwanted
thoughts and they keep repeating them over and over again.
Although, most people do routine tasks throughout their day,
people with OCD let their patterns and routines get in
the way of their daily lives. Although there are medications
that are available to help ease the occurrence of OCD,
there are numerous side affects that go with taking those
medications, causing people to stray away from such medications.
Our facility gives an alternate route for treatment of OCD.
By having a behavioral therapist on staff, they help the patient
learn how to control their compulsions and be able to move
forward with their lives.
