Family Therapy

Although any addiction is an extremely long and difficult path, having family therapy is necessary when trying to regain ones life back. The family of an addict goes through tremendous trials and tribulations as well, therefore conducting therapy for everyone that was affected is essential in a healthy future in recovery. The rehabilitation and clinical staff at Unity Recovery Center explore different areas of each relationship and how it was or is affected, their feelings that are associated, and how to overcome and rebuild the relationships they once had.

Families are encouraged to participate in family counseling, visits, workshops and support groups. In Unity’s family therapy program, the family can begin to understand their role in the recovery process and to support one another through the impact that addiction has had on each other. Many families find that working through the recovery process with their loved one is essential to a full recovery for both the patient and those involved, as family therapy and group discussions give them a better understanding of the serious trials their loved one is facing with drug or alcohol addiction.

Family support is one of the most essential components in recovery. At Unity, the patient is given a safe haven to openly share their addiction experiences, fears, and hopes with loved ones. While discussing, or even admitting to, an addiction was most likely avoided before the patient entered rehab, therapy sessions encourage our patients to speak honestly and candidly with their family members, without fear of being judged. Because the road to recovery can be difficult for a patient to manage on his or her own, family and loved ones are encouraged to listen compassionately as a patient opens up.

Family-based therapy is a frequently tested model that has shown the most positive results in drug and alcohol treatment. The goal of family therapy at Unity Recovery Center is to restructure problematic family interactions and patterns associated with drug or alcohol abuse. Parents, and other family members, are essential participants in this type of treatment. Through family-based therapy, family members are educated on the disease that is addiction and about the 12-step rehab recovery program that we incorporate in the all of our patient’s treatments. Having a clear understanding of what addiction is and being taught how to put the pieces together again where family is concerned, can give hope to all involved in the addiction rehab process.
